The Artisan Electrician Role
The Artisan Electrician at Sasol will play a key role in maintaining and operating electrical equipment and machinery within the plant, ensuring that the operational targets and performance goals are met. This position requires individuals who are detail-oriented, proactive, and dedicated to improving safety and efficiency.
The Artisan Electrician will be responsible for performing routine tasks according to strict instructions and will actively contribute to maintaining a safe and effective working environment. The key responsibilities of this role include participation in shift handovers, conducting root cause analyses (RCA), taking part in risk assessments, and providing valuable feedback to supervisors on work progress.
The role also entails working independently and collaborating with various teams to maintain high safety standards, develop training modules, and identify continuous improvement opportunities in the work area. Candidates will be expected to give input at toolbox talks, assist in emergency situations, and play an integral role in getting the plant back online during critical incidents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Handover Participation: The Artisan Electrician will attend shift handover meetings to ensure seamless transitions and provide relevant feedback to supervisors.
- Root Cause Analyses (RCA): Active participation in root cause analyses is expected, with the role contributing to identifying the underlying causes of technical issues.
- Risk Assessments and Safety: The position requires regular participation in risk assessments, ensuring adherence to safety legislation and improving overall plant safety.
- Work Independently: The Artisan Electrician will work independently while maintaining a focus on operational goals and safety standards.
- Training and Development: Identifying personal training needs, participating in the development of training modules, and coaching learners will be an integral part of this role.
- Emergency Response: In case of emergencies, the Artisan Electrician will play a central role in bringing the plant back online swiftly.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: A Grade 12/N3 qualification with Mathematics, Physical Science, and English is required. In addition, candidates must have a Trade Certificate in Electrical.
- Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience is essential for this role. Candidates should have a solid understanding of electrical systems, troubleshooting techniques, and equipment utilization.
- Skills: Key skills for the role include customer focus, analytical thinking, troubleshooting technical issues, and a strong understanding of electrical fundamentals. The role requires individuals who can manage complexity, take action-oriented decisions, and ensure accountability.
