Job Overview / Description: Unemployed Learner Visual Merchandiser
The Unemployed Learner Visual Merchandiser role provides structured, work-based learning aimed at developing commercial understanding and practical merchandising skills within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment. The learnership equips participants with the knowledge and hands-on experience required to service customers, grow sales volume, support order-taking processes, and execute merchandising standards across direct and indirect customers.
Reporting to the Account Developer, the learner works closely with the sales team to understand customer needs, consumer behaviour, and the broader sales process. The role focuses on in-store execution, visual merchandising excellence, product availability, and brand visibility within a designated geographical area.
Over a 12-month period, learners are exposed to real-world sales and merchandising activities while working toward a nationally recognised qualification, developing skills that support future employability within sales and marketing environments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
In-Store Execution & Merchandising Excellence
Execute daily call schedules across assigned bronze and tin outlets
Implement visual merchandising standards and in-store displays according to brand guidelines
Ensure correct stock rotation, product quality, availability, and visibility
Complete iRED surveys and ensure compliance with RED and execution scorecard standards
Support customers with order placement via the MyCCBA platform
Assist with promotional activities to enhance brand presence
Provide relief and operational support when required by the line manager
Stakeholder Interaction
Sales Team Members: Collaboration on daily tasks and knowledge sharing
Sales Account Developer: Training, guidance, feedback, and alignment with sales objectives and safety standards
Consumers: Understanding consumer preferences and buying behaviour to support sales execution
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 with Maths or Maths Literacy (minimum 40% pass rate)
Grade 12 with English and a second language (minimum 40% pass rate)
South African citizen
Aged between 18 and 35 years
Must be unemployed at the time of appointment
Must be an Employment Equity candidate
Available to work six days per week
No criminal record or adverse credit record
Consent to criminal, ID, and qualification verification
Not currently enrolled in another learnership or full-time studies
Must not have previously completed the same learnership or qualification
Driver’s licence is advantageous
Post-matric qualification in Sales & Marketing (advantageous)
Qualification Requirement
Learners must obtain a minimum of 120 credits to qualify
Learnership duration: 12 months
