Job Description
Botshabelo District Hospital is seeking a qualified Speech Therapist to provide comprehensive speech therapy services to inpatient and outpatient patients, including adults and children with a range of neurological, swallowing, voice and other communication-related conditions.
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, participate in specialised clinics, supervise students, maintain clinical records and contribute to quality improvement and professional development programmes within the hospital and Free State Province.
Minimum Requirements
- Baccalaureus Degree in Speech Therapy or an appropriate relevant qualification.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Speech Therapist.
- Current HPCSA registration for 2026/2027.
Experience Requirements
Grade 1:
- No experience after HPCSA registration for South African-qualified employees who have completed the required Community Service.
- 1 year of relevant experience after HPCSA registration for foreign-qualified employees who are not required to complete Community Service in South Africa.
- Appointment/salary offer will be based on proven years of experience.
- Applicants must attach proof of working experience endorsed by Human Resources.
Grade 2:
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience after HPCSA registration for South African-qualified employees who completed Community Service.
- Minimum 11 years’ relevant experience after HPCSA registration for foreign-qualified employees who were not required to complete Community Service.
Grade 3:
- Minimum 20 years’ relevant experience after HPCSA registration for South African-qualified employees who completed Community Service.
- Minimum 21 years’ relevant experience after HPCSA registration for foreign-qualified employees who were not required to complete Community Service.

Candidates should have:

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services
- Provide speech therapy management to inpatients, including adults and paediatric patients.
- Treat patients with neurological and neurosurgical disorders.
- Provide services to patients with head and neck cancer and voice disorders.
- Manage swallowing disorders and burns-related cases.
- Provide speech therapy services to a variety of paediatric patients.
- Demonstrate an interest in paediatric dysphagia management.
- Provide outpatient management for a variety of cases.
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, including:
- Neurodevelopmental clinics.
- Early Childhood Intervention clinics.
- Conduct videofluoroscopy for both inpatients and outpatients.
Administration & Reporting
- Complete daily and monthly statistics.
- Compile and submit required reports.
- Maintain appropriate clinical and administrative records.
- Adhere to departmental rules and procedures.
Training & Professional Development
- Supervise students.
- Participate in Provincial workgroups.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Speech Therapy profession within the Public Service.
- Participate in hospital and provincial programmes.
- Contribute to Quality Assurance Audits and other quality-improvement initiatives.
