Job Description

Botshabelo District Hospital is seeking a qualified Physiotherapist to provide comprehensive physiotherapy services to patients, develop and implement appropriate treatment programmes, maintain clinical and administrative records, and contribute to multidisciplinary healthcare and quality-improvement programmes.

The successful candidate will also participate in staff development, community outreach, clinical audits and departmental initiatives while ensuring compliance with relevant healthcare standards, legislation and professional ethics.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Baccalaureus/BSc Degree in Physiotherapy.
• Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for 2026/2027.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Be a South African citizen or permanent resident.

Experience Requirements

Grade 1

• No experience required after registration with the HPCSA.

Grade 2

• Minimum 10 years’ experience after registration with the HPCSA.

Grade 3

• Minimum 20 years’ experience after registration with the HPCSA.

Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should have:

• Strong technical experience in Physiotherapy.
• Experience in teaching, training and research.
• Extensive knowledge of Public Service legislation, policies and procedures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong report-writing and medico-legal reporting abilities.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Honesty, integrity and a strong work ethic.
• An interest in Cerebral Palsy.
• Knowledge and experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environments.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Services

• Plan, implement, evaluate, modify and progress appropriate physiotherapy treatment programmes.
• Provide appropriate physiotherapy interventions according to patients’ needs.
• Maintain proper clinical and administrative records.
• Ensure accurate and timely statistics are maintained.
• Adhere to departmental regulations and professional ethical principles.
• Provide physiotherapy services on weekends and public holidays on a rotational basis.

Supervision & Leadership

• Supervise assistant physiotherapists, students and other support staff.
• Deputise for the Chief Physiotherapist and perform relevant functions during their absence.
• Participate in staff development initiatives.
• Provide training through activities such as:
  • CPD programmes.
  • In-service training.
  • Case presentations.

Community & Multidisciplinary Services

• Initiate community-based programmes.
• Render outreach services.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
• Function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Quality Improvement & Compliance

• Assist with developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
• Implement Infection Control and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Assist with quality-improvement programmes.
• Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities, including:
  • Clinical audits.
  • Documentation audits.
  • Leave and attendance audits.
  • Norms and Standards assessments.
  • Ideal Hospital assessments.

Professional Development & Resources

• Attend regular in-service and continuous professional development training.
• Maintain and improve clinical knowledge and skills.
• Ensure the safety and security of departmental equipment.
• Promote responsible use of consumable resources.
