Job Description
The Professional Nurse Specialty will deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients, supervise shift activities, and ensure clinical practice meets quality standards. The nurse must comply with legal and ethical frameworks while maintaining constructive relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders.
The role also involves efficient utilization of human, material, and physical resources within the unit.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care

Provide complex, advanced nursing treatment and care in a specialty unit

Ensure holistic, cost-effective, and efficient patient care

Practice nursing in accordance with laws and regulations
Supervision & Leadership

Act as shift leader, directing and supervising staff in implementing nursing plans

Ensure quality patient care and compliance with standards, criteria, and indicators
Resource Management

Efficiently utilize human, material, and physical resources
-
Maintain accountability for all resources within the unit
Compliance & Professional Standards

Ensure adherence to professional and ethical nursing practices

Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act
Stakeholder Relations

Maintain constructive relationships with nursing colleagues and multidisciplinary teams

Participate in maintaining a positive work environment
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
-
Diploma or Degree in Nursing allowing SANC registration
-
Post-basic qualification: 1-year Advanced Child Psychiatry
-
Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) for 2026/2027
Experience
-
Minimum 4 years post-registration experience in General Nursing and Midwifery
Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of legal frameworks and mental health legislation

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to implement quality standards and manage nursing care effectively
