Job Overview

Job Description
The Chief Radiographer will manage the radiography sub-component of the hospital, oversee clinical operations, ensure 24-hour radiography services, and supervise staff and students. The role also involves policy implementation, resource management, and quality assurance in line with HPCSA and radiation control regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services
Perform general radiography, CT scans, fluoroscopy, portable/mobile X-rays, theatre imaging, MRI, and mammography (as per HPCSA/SAHPRA qualifications)
Ensure 24-hour radiography services for the hospital
Participate in continuous professional development (CPD)
Leadership & Supervision
Supervise radiography junior staff, students, and administrators
Support department management to achieve objectives
Provide mentorship and guidance in clinical practices
Administration & Resource Management
Perform administrative functions related to clinical duties as delegated
Ensure efficient use and control of equipment, assets, consumables, and stock
Contribute to development, implementation, and monitoring of departmental policies and procedures
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Participate in quality assurance programs required by the radiation control directorate and the Department of Health
Ensure adherence to radiation control regulations, safety measures, and occupational health and safety standards
Maintain compliance with HPCSA and professional code of conduct
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
Senior Certificate
National Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Diagnostic Radiographer
Completed community service as required by HPCSA
CPD compliance proof for HPCSA 2026/2027
Experience
Minimum 3 years post-registration experience as a Diagnostic Radiographer (Independent Practice)
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge & Skills
Sound knowledge of radiography procedures, equipment, and accessories
Understanding of pathological processes and imaging appearances
Knowledge of radiation control, safety policies, and occupational health regulations
Leadership, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of public service policies, acts, and regulations
