Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a registered and reputable Pharmacist to join their Langenhoven store in Bloemfontein. The role focuses on providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs and ensuring safe, effective, and compliant medication use.
The successful candidate will work in a retail pharmacy environment, delivering high standards of patient care, accurate dispensing, regulatory compliance, and customer service, while supporting dispensary operations, stock control, and medical aid processes.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Care & Dispensing
Evaluate patients’ medicine-related needs, including indication, safety, and effectiveness
Dispense medicines and scheduled substances in accordance with prescriptions and legislation
Check and sign off prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns in line with GPP standards
Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate
Ensure patient compliance and conduct follow-ups where required
Provide accurate counselling and advice on the correct use of medicines
Identify disease conditions and refer patients to in-store health services when necessary
Compliance & Professional Practice
Interpret prescriptions accurately and act within SAPC, Medicines Act, and Pharmacy Act requirements
Maintain accurate patient and script records on the system
Ensure correct labelling, packing, dosage accuracy, and awareness of drug interactions
Promote public health and uphold professional ethical standards
Medical Aid & Administration
Process medical aid claims accurately and correct rejected scripts
Manage authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
Keep up to date with medical aid procedures and cost structures
Explain medical aid charges clearly to patients
Maintain and merge customer profiles (including Vexall notifications)
Stock & Operational Support
Assist the Dispensary Manager with:
Stock control and inventory management
Reporting low or out-of-stock items
Bi-annual stock takes
Cash, asset, and risk stock control
Ensure all registers and records comply with legal requirements
Maintain housekeeping and dispensary standards
Customer Service & Team Support
Advise and assist customers at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop
Follow up on script tracking reports and patient queries
Train and support staff members where required
Lead by example and contribute positively to the team environment
