    Job Overview

    Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join their Bethlehem (Dihlabeng) store. The role supports the responsible pharmacist in delivering safe, effective, and compliant pharmaceutical care by assisting with patients’ medicine-related needs.

    The successful candidate will operate within SAPC regulations, assist with dispensing, stock control, medical aid administration, and customer service, while contributing to efficient dispensary operations in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Dispensing & Pharmaceutical Support

    • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines

    • Assist in the preparation, compounding, and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision

    • Support prescription preparation, including selection, labelling, and supply of medicines

    • Ensure all dispensed medication is checked and signed off by a pharmacist

    • Provide accurate instructions to patients on the correct use of medicines

    • Be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions

    Compliance & Professional Practice

    • Interpret prescriptions accurately and work within SAPC and Medicines Act requirements

    • Capture and verify prescription and patient details accurately on the system

    • Ensure legal and procedural compliance in all dispensary activities

    • Promote health by providing accurate medicine-related information to patients

    Medical Aid & Administration

    • Process medical aid claims and correct rejected scripts

    • Manage authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications

    • Stay up to date with medical aid procedures and claim requirements

    • Explain medical aid costs clearly to patients

    • Maintain and update customer profiles and action system messages

    Stock Control & Operations

    • Assist with ordering, receiving, distribution, and control of medicines (Schedule 1–5)

    • Receive stock according to Dis-Chem SOPs and merchandise using FEFO principles

    • Report low or out-of-stock items and stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager

    • Participate in bi-annual stock takes

    • Exercise stock, cash, and asset control

    Customer Service & Team Support

    • Assist customers at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop

    • Follow up on script tracking reports and patient appointments as requested

    • Work collaboratively as part of the pharmacy team in a high-pressure retail environment
