Job Overview
The Occupational Therapist provides advanced and specialized OT services to patients in a hospital setting. This role includes clinical care, supervision of students, administrative support, professional development, and promoting the Occupational Therapy services within the hospital.
The position is suitable for both early-career and experienced OT practitioners, depending on the grade.
Job Description
Occupational Therapists deliver specialized rehabilitation services, manage administrative functions for the OT department, supervise students, and contribute to the development of the service. They also ensure continuous professional development and promote OT services within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services
Provide advanced and specialized OT services to all referred patients
Assess, plan, and implement therapeutic interventions
Facilitate patient rehabilitation in a hospital setting
Supervision & Training
Supervise OT students during clinical rotations
Support professional development of clinicians
Administration & Service Development
Manage OT department processes and administrative tasks
Ensure quality service delivery and compliance with hospital standards
Promote and market OT services within the hospital
Professional Development
Participate in continuous professional development
Contribute to the effectiveness and growth of the OT service
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
Matric
B.Sc or B. Occupational Therapy Degree allowing registration with HPCSA
Current registration with HPCSA as Occupational Therapist (2026/2027)
Experience
Grade 1: No experience required post-registration
Grade 2: Minimum 10 years post-registration experience
Grade 3: Minimum 20 years post-registration experience
Knowledge & Skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Computer literacy
Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and independent decision-making
Experience in patient rehabilitation in hospital settings
Ability to supervise students and support professional development
