    Job Description

    The Relief Processing and Inventory Technician position at South African National Blood Service involves processing blood donations into first-line and specialised blood products while ensuring that strict quality and safety standards are maintained. The role also includes controlling, storing, and supplying blood products to internal and external customers.

    This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe and reliable blood supply within the healthcare system.

    Main Responsibilities

    Blood Processing Operations

    • Process blood donations into various blood products within required timeframes.
    • Ensure blood products meet quality and safety standards.
    • Assist with specialised blood product preparation and handling.
    • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) during all laboratory processes.

    Inventory Control and Supply

    • Monitor and control blood product inventory.
    • Supply blood products to internal and external customers when required.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of blood products.
    • Maintain accurate records of blood products processed and distributed.

    Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance

    • Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
    • Ensure equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained.
    • Report faults or maintenance issues when identified.

    Quality and Risk Management

    • Comply with quality assurance and laboratory safety standards.
    • Follow SANBS policies and laboratory procedures.
    • Help reduce risks related to contamination, product loss, or incorrect handling.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and records.

    Customer Service and General Duties

    • Provide professional service to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Work effectively within the laboratory team.
    • Support operational activities as required.
