Job Overview
The University of the Free State is inviting applications for a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Economics and Finance. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, academic administration and the broader research activities of the Department of Economics and Finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate Economics and Finance modules.
- Cover areas including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Statistics for Economics, International Economics, Development Economics, Mathematical Economics and Personal Finance.
- Conduct and publish high-quality research.
- Participate actively in Faculty research activities.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Provide academic consultation sessions to students.
- Participate in academic committees and departmental activities.
- Contribute to research coordination and discipline-related administration.
- Participate in professional and academic development programmes.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Faculty and University.
Requirements – Senior Lecturer
- PhD at NQF Level 10 in Economics or a related discipline.
- Experience presenting research at national and international scholarly conferences.
- National recognition for specialist expertise and research.
- NRF rating or demonstrated potential to obtain an NRF rating.
- Successful supervision of Master’s students through graduation.
- Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed, DHET-accredited national and international journals.
- Proficiency in econometric software such as EViews, Stata and R.
- Sound Python coding skills applied to Economics and Finance.
- Active participation in a national or international scholarly society, committee or research agency.
Requirements – Associate Professor
- PhD at NQF Level 10 in Economics or a related discipline.
- Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate students.
- Excellent publication record in peer-reviewed, DHET-accredited journals.
- National recognition for specialist expertise and research.
- NRF C3 rating or equivalent status.
- Proven supervision of Master’s and PhD students through completion.
- Proficiency in EViews, Stata and R.
- Sound Python coding skills relevant to Economics and Finance.
- Active involvement in national or international scholarly organisations, committees or research agencies.
Recommended
- Experience supervising Economics and Finance research topics.
- Proven lecturing and research experience in higher education.
- Excellent research record.
