Job Purpose
The Part-Time Lecturer: BCom in Entrepreneurship (Statistics/Mathematics) is responsible for teaching Statistics and Mathematics-related modules, supporting student learning, facilitating assessments, monitoring academic performance, and contributing to the overall quality of teaching and learning within the Entrepreneurship programme.
The role focuses on helping students develop analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills that are essential in entrepreneurship and business environments.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver lectures according to module requirements and academic schedules.
- Facilitate learning in Statistics and Mathematics modules.
- Present concepts in a practical and engaging manner.
- Ensure curriculum content is delivered in line with academic standards and module pacers.
- Promote active student participation and engagement.
Student Support
- Identify students who may be academically at risk.
- Provide academic support, guidance, and consultation.
- Assist students with understanding complex mathematical and statistical concepts.
- Monitor student attendance, participation, and progress.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Prepare students for tests, assignments, projects, and examinations.
- Develop and administer assessments according to academic guidelines.
- Mark assessments and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor assessment submissions and escalate concerns where required.
Learning Management System Administration
- Upload academic content and learning resources.
- Maintain accurate student records and module information.
- Provide feedback through digital learning platforms.
- Support online and blended learning initiatives.
Academic Administration
- Track module progress and completion.
- Maintain academic records and reports.
- Attend faculty and academic meetings.
- Assist with quality assurance and academic review processes.
Performance Monitoring
- Analyse student results and module performance.
- Identify trends that may affect student success.
- Support intervention strategies for underperforming students.
- Assist Programme Coordinators in monitoring at-risk modules.
Professional Development
- Participate in academic training and professional development activities.
- Stay updated on developments in Statistics, Mathematics, and Higher Education.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Honours Degree or Master’s Degree in any relevant field with Statistics and/or Mathematics completed up to third-year level.
- Qualification must be at least one NQF level higher than the qualification being taught.
- Academic transcript must be submitted.
Experience
- 2 to 3 years of lecturing or formal tutoring experience.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant industry experience will be advantageous.
