Job Purpose
The Lecturer: BCom in Entrepreneurship (Statistics/Mathematics) is responsible for teaching Statistics and Mathematics-related modules within the Entrepreneurship programme. The role focuses on delivering quality teaching, supporting student success, preparing and administering assessments, monitoring academic performance, and contributing to continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will assist students in developing quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills that support entrepreneurial and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver lectures according to approved module guides and academic schedules.
- Facilitate learning in Statistics and Mathematics-related modules.
- Present course content in a clear and engaging manner.
- Ensure modules are taught in accordance with academic standards and module pacers.
- Incorporate practical business and entrepreneurship applications into teaching where appropriate.
Student Support
- Identify and support students who are academically at risk.
- Provide academic consultation and guidance.
- Assist students in understanding mathematical and statistical concepts.
- Encourage student participation and engagement.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Prepare students for tests, assignments, projects, and examinations.
- Develop assessments in collaboration with the Central Academic Team.
- Mark assessments and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor student assessment submissions and escalate concerns where necessary.
Learning Management System Administration
- Upload learning materials and academic resources.
- Update student information and academic records on digital platforms.
- Provide online feedback and academic communication.
- Support digital learning initiatives.
Academic Administration
- Monitor module progress and student performance.
- Maintain accurate academic records and reports.
- Participate in academic meetings and faculty activities.
- Assist with quality assurance and programme review processes.
Performance Monitoring and Analysis
- Analyse student performance and module results.
- Identify trends affecting student achievement.
- Recommend interventions to improve student success rates.
- Support Programme Coordinators in monitoring at-risk modules.
Academic Professional Development
- Participate in professional development and academic training activities.
- Stay informed about developments in Statistics, Mathematics, and Higher Education.
- Contribute to the enhancement of teaching and learning practices.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Honours Degree or Master’s Degree in any relevant field with Statistics and/or Mathematics completed up to third-year level.
- Qualification must be at least one NQF level higher than the qualification being taught.
- Academic transcript must be submitted with the application.
Experience
- 2 to 3 years of lecturing or formal tutoring experience.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant industry experience will be advantageous.
