    Job Overview

    The Storeman is responsible for the administration, control, and supervision of all stock-related activities within the catering operation. The role ensures that stock levels are accurate, cost-effective, compliant, and well-managed, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and supporting kitchen operations.

    This position requires a detail-oriented and disciplined individual who can work independently, manage stock efficiently, and uphold food safety, hygiene, and HSE standards in a hospitality or catering environment.

    Job Description

    Stock Control & Inventory Management

    • Administer and control all stock in line with budgeted minimum and maximum levels

    • Issue stock and groceries to internal departments

    • Weigh food products issued for kitchen production

    • Assist with weekly and monthly stock takes

    • Maintain accurate stock ratios and minimize variances

    Ordering & Supplier Liaison

    • Place orders with suppliers upon approval from the Project / Assistant Catering Manager

    • Liaise directly with suppliers regarding orders and deliveries

    • Ensure prices and quantities match order sheets and supplier invoices

    • Receive all stock from suppliers and confirm accuracy and condition

    Receiving, Storage & Quality Control

    • Check quality, labelling, and data sheets of all goods received

    • Ensure all stock is correctly packed away after each meal service

    • Implement strict controls in the storeroom, fridge, and freezer

    • Conduct regular quality checks on all food products

    Storeroom & Facility Management

    • Supervise and control the storeroom, fridge, and freezer

    • Ensure all storage areas are locked, clean, and hygienic at all times

    • Maintain proper storage conditions and temperature control

    Health, Safety & Compliance

    • Complete all HSE records accurately and on time

    • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards

    Supervision & Team Support

    • Supervise the store associate

    • Work closely with the Project / Assistant Catering Manager

    • Assist with operational duties as required, including weekend work

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 4 years’ work experience

    • Matric (essential); Logistics qualification (advantageous)

    • Hospitality or catering environment experience (preferred, but training provided)

    • Systems and supervisory experience (advantageous)

    • Valid driver’s license (essential)
