Job Overview
The Storeman is responsible for the administration, control, and supervision of all stock-related activities within the catering operation. The role ensures that stock levels are accurate, cost-effective, compliant, and well-managed, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and supporting kitchen operations.
This position requires a detail-oriented and disciplined individual who can work independently, manage stock efficiently, and uphold food safety, hygiene, and HSE standards in a hospitality or catering environment.
Job Description
Stock Control & Inventory Management

Administer and control all stock in line with budgeted minimum and maximum levels
-
Issue stock and groceries to internal departments
-
Weigh food products issued for kitchen production
-
Assist with weekly and monthly stock takes
-
Maintain accurate stock ratios and minimize variances
Ordering & Supplier Liaison
-
Place orders with suppliers upon approval from the Project / Assistant Catering Manager
-
Liaise directly with suppliers regarding orders and deliveries
-
Ensure prices and quantities match order sheets and supplier invoices
-
Receive all stock from suppliers and confirm accuracy and condition
Receiving, Storage & Quality Control

Check quality, labelling, and data sheets of all goods received
-
Ensure all stock is correctly packed away after each meal service
-
Implement strict controls in the storeroom, fridge, and freezer
-
Conduct regular quality checks on all food products
Storeroom & Facility Management

Supervise and control the storeroom, fridge, and freezer
-
Ensure all storage areas are locked, clean, and hygienic at all times

Maintain proper storage conditions and temperature control
Health, Safety & Compliance

Complete all HSE records accurately and on time

Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
Supervision & Team Support

Supervise the store associate
-
Work closely with the Project / Assistant Catering Manager

Assist with operational duties as required, including weekend work
Education and Experience Requirements
-
Minimum 4 years’ work experience
-
Matric (essential); Logistics qualification (advantageous)
-
Hospitality or catering environment experience (preferred, but training provided)
-
Systems and supervisory experience (advantageous)
-
Valid driver’s license (essential)
