Job Overview
The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the smooth daily operation of kitchen production, ensuring menu consistency, cost control, compliance, and service excellence. The role supports the Catering Manager by assisting with inventory control, staff supervision, food quality standards, and operational reporting.
This position requires a hands-on leader with strong kitchen management experience, good administrative skills, and the ability to train, coach, and motivate staff in a fast-paced catering environment.
Job Description
Kitchen Operations & Food Production

Oversee the smooth operation of kitchen production
-
Ensure consistency and quality across all menu items
-
Assist in all food production areas, including basic food preparation
-
Ensure correct portion control, preparation, and storage methods
Stock Control & Cost Management
-
Assist with inventory monitoring and communicate stock needs to the Catering Manager
-
Support ordering, receiving, and stock control processes
-
Conduct regular stock takes as required
-
Analyze and manage unit food costs effectively
-
Record, monitor, and minimize food wastage
Quality, Safety & Compliance

Maintain required temperature records and report any variances
-
Ensure compliance with food safety standards and relevant legislation
-
Complete and maintain all required paperwork (wastage sheets, cleaning records, etc.)
Service Excellence & Customer Focus

Deliver excellent food and customer service at all times

Support consistent service standards across the unit
People Management & Team Development

Support, train, coach, and develop kitchen staff

Lead by example and assist colleagues in a positive and cooperative manner

Education and Experience Requirements

Matric (essential)
-
Relevant tertiary qualification in Food & Beverage Services or Culinary Arts (compulsory)

Minimum 2 years’ experience in progressive kitchen management (compulsory)

Computer literacy (essential)

Experience with stock control, ordering, and receiving
-
WorkSmart system knowledge (essential)
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Knowledge of catering environments (fine dining to restaurant dining)

Knowledge of South African and industry-specific legislation
