     Overview

    The Shift Leader role at University of the Free State is responsible for supervising campus security operations, ensuring effective deployment of personnel, and maintaining safety across the campus.

    This role involves leading a team of security officers, overseeing shifts, and ensuring compliance with policies and service agreements.

     Job Description

    The Shift Leader manages security operations on campus, ensuring all security personnel perform effectively and that incidents are properly addressed and documented.

    The role includes supervising shifts, coordinating staff schedules, overseeing patrolling, handling incident reports, and liaising with relevant stakeholders.

     Key Responsibilities

    Supervision & Operations

    • Supervise staff during shifts and ensure proper handover

    • Maintain supervision over operational areas (duty room, monitoring room, guardhouses)

    • Ensure patrolling of vulnerable areas

    • Oversee deployment and leave administration of security personnel

    Compliance & Performance

    • Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLA)

    • Track performance plans on the Performance Management System

    • Respond to and document incidents, including preliminary investigations on CIIMS

    Administration

    • Submit overtime requests and record shift times in the finance system

    • Compile monthly attendance and shift registers

    • Attend meetings and complete ad hoc tasks assigned by the department

     Minimum Requirements (Inherent Requirements)

    • Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate (NQF Level 4)

    • Valid Grade B PSIRA certificate

    • Valid South African driver’s license (Code 8)

    • Minimum 1-year relevant work experience in similar duties

    Recommended Qualifications

    • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Advanced Diploma/Bachelor’s (NQF Level 7) in Security Management, Policing, Criminology, or related field

    • Experience in campus security environment

    • First Aid and Fire Fighting training
