    Role Purpose:

    As a Shift Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for managing the blood processing lab operations during your shift. Your primary goals include ensuring:

    • Safe and compliant blood component processing

    • Staff supervision and training

    • Product quality and safety

    • Operational efficiency and documentation accuracy

    Key Responsibilities:

    Operational Management

    • Oversee the receipt, inspection, and processing of whole blood into components.

    • Ensure storage and handling meet safety standards.

    • Maintain up-to-date, accurate records of processing and product outcomes.

    • Supervise and guide shift employees and trainees.

    • Handle equipment maintenance and calibration in line with SOPs.

    Quality Assurance

    • Ensure processes align with SANBS policies and ISO 15189, GMP, and SANAS standards.

    • Identify quality gaps and implement improvement strategies.

    • Prevent contamination and product loss through compliance.

    Financial & Administrative

    • Work within budget parameters.

    • Maintain lab documentation, reporting, and scheduling.

    Staff Supervision & Training

    • Manage and develop a team of lab staff and trainees.

    • Conduct training, assessments, and sign-off of competencies.

    Communication & Collaboration

    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and respond professionally to queries.

    • Represent the shift in broader operational discussions.

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

    Education:

    • HPCSA Registered Medical Technologist (Blood Transfusion)Compulsory

    Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year experience in Blood Transfusion laboratory operations

    Knowledge of:

    • SANAS documentation and ISO15189

    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

    • BCEA, OSH Act

    • Internal SANBS policies and procedures
