    Job Purpose

    The Blood Bank Supervisor is responsible for supervising and managing all Blood Bank operations to ensure that daily activities are conducted according to established standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The role includes overseeing Blood Bank Technicians and Technologists, maintaining quality standards, managing risks, ensuring customer satisfaction, and achieving operational objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Management

    • Supervise daily Blood Bank operations.
    • Ensure all operational activities comply with established procedures and standards.
    • Monitor workflow and staff productivity.
    • Ensure effective utilisation of resources and equipment.
    • Coordinate operational activities to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

    Staff Supervision

    • Supervise Blood Bank Technicians and Biomedical Technologists.
    • Provide guidance, support, and leadership to staff members.
    • Monitor employee performance and productivity.
    • Ensure adherence to workplace policies and procedures.
    • Promote teamwork and professional conduct.

    Financial Management

    • Assist in achieving departmental financial objectives.
    • Monitor efficient use of resources.
    • Support cost-control measures and operational efficiency initiatives.

    Quality and Risk Management

    • Ensure compliance with quality management systems.
    • Monitor adherence to blood banking standards and regulations.
    • Identify and manage operational risks.
    • Implement corrective and preventative actions where necessary.
    • Ensure accurate documentation and record keeping.

    Customer Service

    • Maintain high standards of customer service.
    • Address customer concerns and operational issues.
    • Ensure professional interactions with donors, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders.
    • Promote service excellence throughout the Blood Bank.

    Minimum Requirements

    Essential Qualification

    • Registered Biomedical Technologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
