    Job Overview

    The Electrical Engineer (Maintenance) is responsible for ensuring the effective design, maintenance, commissioning, and continuous improvement of electrical engineering services within the Free State Department of Health. The role focuses on maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient electrical systems that support uninterrupted healthcare service delivery across departmental facilities.

    This position contributes to infrastructure sustainability, compliance with statutory requirements, and the optimal performance of electrical equipment and systems.

     Key Responsibilities

    Engineering Design & Analysis

    • Perform electrical engineering design and technical analysis to support maintenance and infrastructure needs.

    • Ensure engineering solutions are effective, compliant, and fit for purpose.

    • Apply professional engineering standards in all maintenance-related activities.

    Maintenance & Engineering Services

    • Maintain electrical engineering services and systems within health facilities.

    • Implement sound engineering service management methods.

    • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.

    Commissioning of Equipment

    • Ensure effective and efficient commissioning of electrical equipment and systems.

    • Verify that installations meet design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

    Project Implementation

    • Support and manage electrical maintenance and infrastructure projects.

    • Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, within scope, and according to approved standards.

    • Apply PFMA and Treasury Regulations during project execution.

    Research & Development

    • Conduct research to improve electrical maintenance practices and service delivery.

    • Keep up to date with developments in electrical engineering technologies and standards.

    • Recommend innovations to improve system reliability and efficiency.

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Matric.

    • Degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 7), recognised by SAQA.

    • Current registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (2025/2026).

    Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in electrical engineering.

    Mandatory Requirements

    • Valid driver’s licence.

    • Computer literacy.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of:

      • Public Financial Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations.

      • Hazardous Substances Act 15 of 1973.

      • Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993).

      • National Health Act (Act 61 of 2003) and related regulations.

      • Engineering Profession Act (2000).

    • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to apply engineering standards in a regulated public-sector environment.
