The Monitor Room Operator is responsible for monitoring CCTV surveillance systems, alarms, and fire detection systems to ensure the safety and security of the university community. Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor CCTV surveillance equipment and security systems.
- Monitor live and recorded video footage and report suspicious activities.
- Communicate with security officers via two-way radio and coordinate emergency responses.
- Store and manage CCTV footage for investigation purposes.
- Test panic buttons weekly and submit reports.
- Monitor fire detection systems, alarms, and CCTV cameras.
- Activate response teams during alarms or security incidents.
- Record incidents and prepare incident reports for the Shift Leader.
- Report faulty security equipment and escalate maintenance issues.
- Conduct preliminary investigations using CCTV footage.
- Provide statements and attend court cases or disciplinary hearings when required.
- Perform static guarding, patrols, crime prevention duties, and provide operational support when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).
- Valid PSIRA Grade C Certificate.
- Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience.
Recommended Qualifications & Experience:
- CCTV Monitoring Certificate.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Fire Fighting Certificate.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
