Job Overview
Absa Bank is seeking an Agri Specialist to support the bank’s strategic objectives within the agricultural sector. The role focuses on positioning Absa as the preferred financial services provider through thought leadership, sector-specific expertise, stakeholder engagement, and innovative financial solutions.
The successful candidate will drive business growth and profitability, manage and mitigate sector-specific risks, and provide technical, financial, and economic expertise to clients, internal teams, and stakeholders within the agricultural value chain.
Key Accountabilities
Business Development & Client Acquisition
Attract quality new agricultural business through targeted growth strategies
Build and maintain strong client relationships within the agri sector
Structure deals, complete credit applications, and obtain required approvals
Stay informed about Absa’s product offerings and sector-specific solutions
Market & Financial Analysis
Identify and evaluate new business opportunities in the agricultural market
Conduct financial analysis and due diligence on potential and existing clients
Structure acquisition terms that align with the bank’s risk appetite
Analyse sector trends, opportunities, and threats
Growth, Profitability & Cross-Selling
Achieve growth and profitability targets through structured action plans
Generate leads and participate in marketing and sector engagement initiatives
Encourage cross-selling of relevant banking and financial products
Credit & Risk Management
Maintain acceptable client risk profiles in line with credit policies
Assess and manage credit risk for agricultural clients and portfolios
Support mitigation strategies for high-risk accounts and sector challenges
Assist in disaster-related risk management situations affecting the sector
Industry Expertise & Thought Leadership
Stay updated on agricultural industry developments and competitor activity
Provide sector-specific technical, economic, and financial insights
Share best practices and contribute to Absa’s industry thought leadership
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Develop and implement client management and engagement plans
Maintain an up-to-date stakeholder database
Support Industry Affiliated Regional Managers and Relationship Executives
Training, Support & Development
Train and support the sales force on agri-sector products and risk considerations
Assist with client retention strategies
Plan and participate in career and personal development initiatives
Education Requirements
Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Agribusiness Management
