Job Overview
ER24 is seeking a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BLS) to join their emergency medical services team in Bloemfontein. The role involves responding to emergency calls and providing basic life support and medical care in accordance with the approved scope of practice and HPCSA guidelines.
The successful candidate will ensure operational readiness, deliver safe and effective patient care in pre-hospital environments, and contribute to maintaining ER24’s professional public image in the community.
Key Responsibility Areas
Emergency Response & Operational Readiness
Respond promptly and professionally to emergency calls
Ensure ambulance, equipment, and medical supplies are operational and ready at all times
Maintain awareness of facilities, travel routes, and local demographic areas
Patient Care & Clinical Practice
Administer basic medical care in line with BLS scope of practice
Apply HPCSA Clinical Practice Guidelines and best-practice standards
Accurately assess patients and provide appropriate pre-hospital interventions
Complete Patient Report Forms (PRFs) accurately and timeously
Compliance & Professional Conduct
Operate within HPCSA regulations and ER24 clinical governance standards
Maintain professionalism in high-pressure and emergency situations
Uphold ethical conduct and patient confidentiality at all times
Public Image & Stakeholder Interaction
Represent ER24 positively when interacting with patients, families, and the public
Contribute to community trust and confidence in ER24 emergency services
Education Requirements
Essential:
Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) Certificate
Advantageous:
Completion of HPCSA Clinical Practice Guidelines training
If not completed at application stage, training must be completed during probation if appointed
Experience Requirements
Essential:
6 months to 1 year road BLS experience
Advantageous:
2 years road BLS experience
Required Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of EMS environments
Understanding of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice
Application of best clinical practices
Familiarity with healthcare facilities and travel routes
Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations
Accurate completion of clinical documentation
