Job Overview
Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital is inviting suitably qualified medical practitioners to apply for the position of Medical Officer Grade 1–3.
The successful candidate will provide medical services within Urology, including the assessment and management of patients, assisting with procedures and surgeries, supervising junior staff, maintaining accurate medical records and supporting clinical governance and quality healthcare delivery.
Salary
The position offers the following all-inclusive annual packages:
- Grade 1: R1,041,402 – R1,121,241 per annum
- Grade 2: R1,188,255 – R1,297,089 per annum
- Grade 3: R1,375,245 – R1,713,534 per annum
The all-inclusive package consists of 70% basic salary and 30% flexible portion, which may be structured in accordance with the applicable rules.
Medical Aid: Optional, subject to prescribed requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
- Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
- Current annual HPCSA registration for 2026/2027.
Experience Requirements
Grade 1
- No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
Grade 2
- At least 5 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
Grade 3
- At least 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Clinical Duties
- Manage medical conditions within Urology to ensure competent medical services are provided to patients.
- Brief, inform and counsel patients and, where appropriate, their relatives regarding prevention, treatment, operative procedures, complications and rehabilitation.
- Develop skills in resuscitative measures and intensive-care treatment to assist in managing critically ill patients.
- Prescribe medication and order and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Assist with medical procedures and surgeries.
- Provide appropriate medical care in accordance with professional standards and applicable policies.
Supervision and Training
- Supervise junior medical staff to ensure adequate patient care.
- Train junior staff to perform key medical interventions.
- Provide guidance and support within the clinical team.
Medical Records and Medico-Legal Compliance
- Reduce medical litigation risks by maintaining good clinical practices and professional standards.
- Complete accurate medico-legal documentation.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records.
Clinical Governance and Compliance
- Perform clinical governance activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal and statutory requirements.
- Adhere to requirements and standards of the Free State Department of Health (FSDoH), OHSC, HPCSA, CMSA and UFS.
- Conduct clinical audits.
- Monitor and evaluate relevant clinical effectiveness indicators.
Outpatient and Outreach Services
- Consult patients on an outpatient basis to support optimal chronic disease management.
- Provide appropriate long-term patient follow-up.
- Render outreach and support services to other levels of care within the Free State Province and designated drainage areas.
Additional Duties
- Perform commuted duties, which are compulsory and non-negotiable, in accordance with the relevant policy.
- Perform all reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Department, Head of Clinical Unit or Medical Specialist.
Working Environment
The successful candidate will be required to perform clinical, supervisory, administrative and outreach duties. The position includes compulsory and non-negotiable commuted duties in line with the applicable policy.
