Job Overview
Botshabelo District Hospital is seeking qualified Medical Officers at Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 levels. The successful candidates will provide comprehensive medical care to patients, supervise junior staff and contribute to the delivery of quality healthcare services.
The position requires candidates to participate in compulsory commuted overtime duties and provide medical services across relevant clinical areas.

The salary is an all-inclusive package consisting of 70% basic salary and 30% flexible portion, which may be structured according to applicable rules. Medical aid is optional, subject to prescribed requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Matric.
- An appropriate medical qualification allowing registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice).
- Current annual HPCSA registration for 2026/2027.
Grade 1
For South African-qualified employees:
- No experience is required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
For foreign-qualified employees:
- 1 year relevant experience after registration with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council, where the candidate is not required to complete Community Service in South Africa.
Grade 2
For South African-qualified employees:
- At least 5 years’ appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
For foreign-qualified employees:
- 6 years’ relevant experience after registration with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council, where Community Service in South Africa is not required.
Grade 3
For South African-qualified employees:
- At least 10 years’ appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
For foreign-qualified employees:
- 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council, where Community Service in South Africa is not required.
Knowledge & Skills
Candidates should have:
- Extensive knowledge of Public Service legislation, policies and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong report-writing abilities.
- Ability to prepare medico-legal reports.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Honesty, integrity and strong work ethics.
- Knowledge or experience in childcare, maternity, surgery and paediatrics will be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing and treating various medical conditions to ensure competent patient care.
- Performing compulsory and non-negotiable commuted overtime duties.
- Supervising junior medical staff to ensure adequate medical care.
- Training junior staff in key medical interventions.
- Consulting with outpatients to support optimal chronic disease management and long-term follow-up.
- Briefing, informing and counselling patients and, where appropriate, their relatives on prevention, treatment, operations, complications and rehabilitation.
- Developing and maintaining skills in resuscitation and intensive-care treatment.
- Providing appropriate medical interventions to improve the survival of critically ill patients.
