Job Overview
Universitas Academic Hospital is seeking qualified Medical Officers at Grade 1–3 level to provide clinical services and support healthcare delivery within the hospital and its surrounding drainage areas.
The successful candidates will contribute to clinical governance, patient care, medical administration, clinical audits and quality improvement, while also supporting other levels of healthcare across the Free State Province.

The salary is an all-inclusive package consisting of 70% basic salary and 30% flexible portion, which may be structured according to applicable rules. Medical aid is optional, subject to prescribed requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An MBChB degree or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Current HPCSA registration for 2026/2027 as a Medical Practitioner in Independent Practice.
- Non-South African applicants must have a valid work permit.
South African-qualified applicants:
- No experience is required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in Independent Practice.
Foreign-qualified applicants:
- At least 1 year of relevant experience after registration with a recognised Foreign Health Professions Council and/or HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in Independent Practice.
Recommended Clinical Knowledge
Knowledge and/or experience in the following will be relevant:
- ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
- ATLS – Advanced Trauma Life Support
- APLS – Advanced Paediatric Life Support
- BASIC
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Performing compulsory and non-negotiable commuted overtime duties.
- Providing outreach and support services to other levels of care within the Free State Province.
- Delivering appropriate clinical care and maintaining high standards of medical practice.
- Reducing medical litigation through sound clinical practice and professional medical ethics.
- Participating in clinical governance activities.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements.
- Supporting compliance requirements of the Free State Department of Health, OHSC, HPCSA, CMSA and UFS.
- Performing medical administration duties as directed by the relevant Head of Department, Head of Clinical Unit or Medical Specialist in the Critical Care Department.
- Conducting clinical audits.
- Monitoring and evaluating relevant clinical effectiveness indicators.
- Contributing to quality improvement and effective healthcare delivery.
