Job Overview
The Intermediate Phase Head is responsible for managing all academic and administrative aspects of the Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–7).
This role combines leadership, teaching, curriculum management, and operational administration. The incumbent ensures high teaching standards, mentors staff, manages curriculum implementation, oversees discipline and interventions, and supports academic excellence.
In addition to leadership duties, the role includes active teaching and coordination of specific subjects within the Intermediate Phase.
Key Performance Areas
1. Teaching & Academic Delivery

Plan and deliver lessons using modern teaching methods

Develop workbooks and monitor learner academic progress

Promote integrated and focused teaching approaches
2. Phase Administration & Academic Management

Manage annual and term plans

Develop timetables and staff duty allocations

Handle subject changes and communication

Assist with marketing and budgeting

Oversee curriculum rollout and moderation
3. Leadership & Staff Management

Manage and mentor Grade Heads

Conduct interviews and performance appraisals

Provide training and professional development

Mediate staff-related matters
4. Discipline & Interventions

Manage disciplinary processes in line with school policies

Oversee learner interventions

Ensure adherence to the school code of conduct
5. Assessments & Classroom Management

Plan and manage formal and continuous assessments

Moderate and supervise assessments

Manage homework systems

Design classroom environments for optimal learning

Communicate effectively with parents and learners
6. Events & Extramurals

Plan and manage school events

Coordinate extramural activities
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
-
BEd degree and/or PGCE in Intermediate Phase Education
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Intermediate Phase Head
Knowledge
-
Knowledge of the IEB curriculum
Professional Registration

SACE registered
-
Clear criminal record
