Job Overview
The Consumer Studies Teacher (FET Phase) is responsible for teaching and coordinating Consumer Studies within the Further Education and Training (FET) phase (Grades 10–12).
The role involves:
Delivering high-quality, curriculum-aligned instruction
Facilitating knowledge transfer and skills development
Promoting positive learner attitudes and academic growth
Managing classroom operations and assessments
Supporting learners through differentiated teaching approaches
The teacher plays a key role in ensuring academic excellence while maintaining a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
Key Performance Areas
1. Teaching & Academic Planning
Plan and deliver lessons using modern teaching tools and methods
Develop and manage term plans aligned with curriculum requirements
Set up workbooks and monitor learner academic progress
Adjust lesson plans based on assessment outcomes
2. Assessment & Academic Monitoring
Create baseline assessments to evaluate learner knowledge
Recommend subject combinations or remedial interventions where necessary
Set, moderate, revise, and supervise formal and continuous assessments
Track academic performance and implement improvement strategies
3. Classroom Management
Plan classroom layout for optimal performance
Manage assessment schedules
Maintain discipline and positive classroom culture
Communicate effectively with learners and parents
4. Learner Support
Provide differentiated learning materials
Offer one-on-one tutoring and extra lessons
Support catch-up and remedial programmes
5. Extramural & School Involvement
Plan and manage extramural activities
Coordinate outings and school-related events
Participate in broader school activities as required
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
BEd degree and/or PGCE in FET Phase Education
Honours degree in Education (advantageous)
Relevant subject specialisation
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching in the FET phase
Knowledge of the IEB curriculum
Professional Registration
SACE registered
Clear criminal record
Skills & Competencies

Report-writing skills
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to work extended hours and weekends
