Job Purpose
To manage, oversee, and coordinate construction projects within the Department of Public Works. This includes providing technical leadership, mentoring project managers, ensuring compliance with regulations, and delivering infrastructure projects efficiently from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Oversight
- Manage construction projects ranging from large-scale capital projects to maintenance projects and service contracts
- Interpret client requirements into manageable scopes of work
- Coordinate internal resources to support the bidding process and appointment of contractors
- Monitor contractors and consultants to ensure quality, timelines, and compliance with project specifications
- Process variation orders, extensions of time, and monthly interim payments in line with contract conditions
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor, develop, and provide technical support to subordinate project managers
- Cultivate a culture of high performance and positive working relationships
- Ensure teams comply with legal, operational, and project management standards
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and submit project information for filing to the Head of Directorate
- Secure project funding through internal processes
- Maintain project documentation for audit readiness
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- National Higher Diploma (Built Environment) / B-Tech (Built Environment) / Honours Degree in a built environment field
- Compulsory registration with SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Project Manager upon appointment
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 6 years post-qualification experience in construction project management
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of programme and project management, project design, legal and operational compliance
- Strong communication, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making, and conflict management skills
