Job Purpose
To lead architectural functions within the department, ensuring effective design, project delivery, financial management, and compliance with engineering and construction standards. The role ensures that architectural outputs align with organizational objectives and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design & Management
- Perform final review, approval, and audit of architectural designs according to established principles
- Coordinate design efforts across disciplines to ensure integration with current technology
- Set architectural standards, specifications, and service levels to optimize operational efficiency
Financial & Project Oversight
- Manage operational capital project portfolios
- Allocate, monitor, and control expenditure in line with budgetary and MTEF objectives
- Ensure funds are available and effectively managed to support projects
Governance & Risk Management
- Compile risk logs and manage significant risks according to departmental policy
- Provide technical consulting to minimize architectural risks
- Implement knowledge management initiatives (e.g., secondments, short-term assignments)
People & Knowledge Management
- Assess and train support personnel
- Identify on-the-job training needs and develop trainee cost engineers
- Mentor and coach new personnel
Systems & Tools
- Use dashboards to track project progress
- Develop and implement recovery plans when projects lag
- Ensure operational effectiveness through proper systems, structures, and resources
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent
- Compulsory registration with SACAP as a Professional Architect
- Six (6) years post-qualification architectural experience
Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of architectural design, principles, and project management
- Familiarity with PFMA, OHS Act, Supply Chain Management, and contract management
- Experience in high-performance project delivery environments
- Valid driver’s license
