Purpose of the Role
The Specialist: Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, and providing financial insights to assist management decision-making. The role contributes to the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization through accurate accounting and reporting practices.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and analyse:
- Balance Sheets
- Income Statements
- Cash Flow Statements
- Produce accurate and timely financial reports.
- Monitor and evaluate financial performance indicators.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to management.
Financial Closing Processes
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
- Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist with budgeting processes.
- Support financial forecasting activities.
- Monitor actual performance against budget targets.
- Provide variance analysis and reporting.
Tax and Compliance Management
- Prepare and manage:
- Annual Tax Packs
- VAT Returns
- VAT General Ledger Reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and financial regulations.
- Support tax reporting and statutory requirements.
Financial Systems and Reporting
- Manage Hyperion uploads and reporting processes.
- Review Financial Services Provider (FSP) calculations and returns.
- Maintain accurate financial records within financial systems.
- Ensure financial data integrity and accuracy.
Cash Management and Reconciliations
- Manage cash book activities.
- Monitor company cash flow.
- Prepare cash management reports.
- Perform and review financial reconciliations.
- Support payment processing and financial controls.
Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Management
- Manage the full CAPEX process.
- Monitor capital expenditure transactions.
- Ensure proper authorization and accounting treatment of assets.
Audit Support
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Prepare supporting documentation for audit reviews.
- Address audit findings and implement corrective actions where required.
Accounting Governance
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Maintain compliance with financial control requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of accounting processes.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Related Financial Field
Preferred Qualification
- CPA Certification (advantageous).
Experience
- 3+ years’ experience in accounting or finance.
- 1–2 years’ experience in a similar environment.
- Financial services experience is advantageous but not essential.
