    Job Purpose

    The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the dispensary by delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, providing safe and accurate dispensing services, managing dispensary operations, achieving business and compliance targets, and delivering exceptional customer service. The role also involves supervising pharmacy support staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting Clicks’ vision of being the customer’s first choice health and beauty retailer.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Pharmaceutical Care

    • Provide professional pharmaceutical care to patients.
    • Dispense medicines accurately and safely.
    • Perform generic substitutions where appropriate.
    • Offer professional medication counselling and advice.
    • Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and legal requirements.
    • Operate within the scope of practice prescribed by the South African Pharmacy Council.

    2. Dispensary Operations

    • Oversee the daily operation of the dispensary.
    • Ensure safe dispensing procedures.
    • Maintain dispensary standards.
    • Perform administrative duties related to pharmacy operations.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and pharmacy regulations.

    3. Stock and Inventory Management

    • Manage pharmaceutical stock effectively.
    • Monitor stock levels and expiry dates.
    • Control shrinkage and minimise stock losses.
    • Ensure responsible storage of medicines.
    • Maintain proper housekeeping within the dispensary.

    4. Business Performance

    • Achieve dispensary and clinic performance targets.
    • Support the operational and financial success of the dispensary.
    • Contribute to sales growth.
    • Monitor operational efficiency.

    5. Staff Supervision and Development

    • Supervise Pharmacist Assistants and Pharmacist Interns.
    • Provide coaching and mentorship.
    • Support staff training and development.
    • Ensure compliance with SAPC training requirements.

    6. Customer Service

    • Deliver exceptional customer service.
    • Promote customer loyalty initiatives.
    • Support ClubCard participation targets.
    • Ensure patients receive professional healthcare advice.
    • Build long-term customer relationships.

    7. Stakeholder Management

    • Build productive relationships with:
      • Centre managers.
      • Suppliers.
      • Distribution Centres (DCs).
      • Internal healthcare teams.
    • Collaborate to achieve business objectives.

    8. Integrated Healthcare Services

    • Work closely with the in-store clinic.
    • Support the healthcare aisle.
    • Promote comprehensive healthcare solutions for customers.

    9. Compliance and Governance

    • Ensure compliance with:
      • SAPC regulations.

      • Company Standard Operating Procedures.
      • Ethical pharmacy practices.

    Minimum Requirements

    Essential Qualifications

    Applicants must have:

    • Registration as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council.

    Desirable Experience

    The following will be advantageous:

    • Retail pharmacy experience.
    • Experience using Unisolve pharmacy management software.
