    Job Overview

    Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Manager at its new Ficksburg store.

    The successful candidate will develop their knowledge and experience in overall retail store operations under the guidance of the Store Manager. The position provides exposure to stock management, sales, finance, customer service, HR administration and general store management while completing structured on-the-job learning.

    Minimum Requirements

    Essential:

    • Grade 12 / Matric.
    • 1–2 years’ experience in retail store management disciplines, including stock management, cash management, reporting, expense control and customer service.
    • Computer literacy, particularly MS Office.
    • Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Own reliable transport.

    Advantageous:

    • Diploma in Financial Management, Administration or a relevant three-year Diploma.

    Key Responsibilities

    Inventory Management

    • Process goods in transit, cycle counts, physical stock-to-system matching and stock takes.
    • Address shrinkage and maintain appropriate stock levels.
    • Ensure efficient stock flow to the sales floor.
    • Assist with shrinkage management.
    • Support stock ordering to maintain FMCG, Health and Beauty stock levels.

    Sales Floor and Receiving

    • Assist with promotional stock displays across FMCG, Health and Beauty.
    • Maintain labelling, pricing and layout standards.
    • Assist with goods receiving according to SOPs.
    • Maintain transaction integrity for goods received and returns.
    • Assist with reconciliation of daily ZMove Packs.

    Sales and Store Targets

    • Assist with achieving store sales targets.
    • Work with Heads of Departments to achieve targets.
    • Support effective execution of promotions.
    • Collaborate with other stores on promotional activities and best practices.
    • Monitor market trends and local competitor activity.
    • Support the development of strategies to increase customer traffic, market share and profitability.
    • Propose innovative ideas to improve store performance.

    Point of Sale and Finance

    • Assist with daily cash-ups and reconciliation packs.
    • Support effective scheduling of point-of-sale areas.
    • Monitor store expenses and ensure correct allocation of stock adjustments.
    • Assist with analysing financial income statements.
    • Help ensure expenses remain within budget.
    • Support transaction accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist with improving cashier service levels and productivity.
    • Help control overtime and casual staff expenditure.
    • Assist with daily sign-offs and investigation of run ends.
    • Assist with internal and external store audits.

    Customer Service

    • Assist with resolving customer complaints and managing compliments.
    • Ensure the customer request system is operational and followed up daily.
    • Encourage new loyalty programme sign-ups.
    • Assist with accurate manual processing of customer points.
    • Provide customers with feedback regarding queries and complaints.

    HR Support

    • Assist with leave management, staff scheduling and employee file administration.
    • Facilitate HR processes and documentation in line with company procedures.
    • Support transactions on the KRONOS workforce management system.
    • Assist with HR policy and system implementations.
    • Support employee training and collect feedback from training sessions.

    Trainee Programme

    • Participate in meetings, workshops and learning opportunities.
    • Complete assigned on-the-job learning activities.
    • Complete required learning programmes and assessments.
    • Maintain an up-to-date Portfolio of Evidence with the required sign-offs.
