Job Description
This role is responsible for managing and evolving the institution’s Learning Management System (LMS) platforms from a product perspective.
You act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring the LMS delivers value, supports learning, and aligns with institutional strategy.
In simple terms: you manage the strategy, development, and improvement of the university’s online learning system.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and maintain LMS product vision
- Build product roadmap aligned with institutional goals
- Prioritise features based on business value and user needs
2. Stakeholder Management
- Liaise between:
- Academic teams
- IT developers
- End users (students & lecturers)
- Translate business needs into technical requirements
- Gather and refine system requirements
3. Agile Product Delivery
- Lead Agile processes (Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, reviews)
- Manage backlog and user stories (via Azure DevOps or similar tools)
- Ensure delivery meets quality and business expectations
4. Performance Monitoring & Improvement
- Track LMS usage, adoption, and performance metrics
- Identify system improvement opportunities
- Analyse user feedback and system issues
5. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Explore new LMS features and vendor updates
- Improve system automation and processes
- Enhance user experience for students and staff
6. Delivery Planning & Reporting
- Create delivery schedules and execution plans
- Manage risks and project dependencies
- Provide progress reports to leadership
7. Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- POPIA (data protection law)
- IT governance policies
- Manage change control and system releases
- Oversee risk assessments for system changes
8. Leadership & Capability Building
- Mentor team members
- Support onboarding and training
- Promote consistent product management practices
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or NQF Level 7 qualification in:
- Computer Science
- Information Systems
- IT or related field
Experience
- 5–7 years in:
- Product Management OR
- Business Analysis OR
- Application Ownership
- At least 3 years in Agile/Scrum environments
- Advantage:
- LMS systems experience
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience
- Product/Project certifications
