Job Description
This role involves working on telecommunications towers and masts, performing installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of network equipment.
You are required to physically climb towers and work at heights to maintain network infrastructure.
In simple terms: you are a tower climber and telecom field technician who keeps mobile and internet networks running.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mast & Tower Work
- Climb telecom masts and towers
- Perform maintenance and repairs at height
- Conduct safety checks before and after climbing
- Work with fall arrest systems and safety gear
2. Network Maintenance
- Monitor network and equipment performance
- Perform preventative maintenance (PMT)
- Repair or replace faulty equipment
- Maintain wireless, IP, broadband, and transmission systems
3. Installation & Commissioning
- Install and commission telecom equipment
- Perform acceptance testing (ATP)
- Ensure systems are fully functional before handover
- Confirm completed installations
4. Technical Support & Reporting
- Document all maintenance activities
- Provide reports and recommendations
- Update system records and logs
- Support operational teams when needed
5. Compliance & Administration
- Follow operational procedures (DOP, WFM systems)
- Conduct site surveys and asset verification
- Complete compliance and claim documentation
- Adhere to safety and telecom regulations
6. Health & Safety Duties
- Follow strict safety standards for working at height
- Use protective equipment (PPE & fall arrest systems)
- Maintain physical fitness and medical clearance
- Work safely in high-risk environments
Minimum Requirements
Education
- NQF Level 6: National Diploma / Advanced Diploma (Electrical Engineering Light Current preferred)
OR - NQF Level 4: Matric with Mathematics & Science
Experience
- 1–3 years operational technical experience
- Experience in telecom or technical field work is preferred
Certifications (Critical)
- Certified mast and tower climber OR willingness to be trained
- Fall arrest certification (or ability to obtain)
- Valid medical fitness certificate
