Job Description
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the dispensary and clinic while delivering exceptional pharmaceutical care and customer service. The role involves leading and managing the pharmacy team, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, achieving financial and operational targets, and driving business performance.
The successful candidate will oversee dispensing operations, inventory management, staff development, customer service initiatives, and financial performance while maintaining compliance with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Care and Dispensing
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care.
- Oversee safe and accurate dispensing of medication.
- Ensure generic substitution is performed where appropriate.
- Provide professional advice and patient counselling.
- Ensure compliance with SAPC regulations and Good Pharmacy Practice standards.
Dispensary Operations Management
- Manage all dispensary operations effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, pharmacy regulations, and legal requirements.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and operational control.
- Oversee dispensary administration and record keeping.
Stock and Inventory Management
- Manage stock levels and inventory control processes.
- Monitor shrinkage and implement loss prevention measures.
- Ensure responsible handling and storage of pharmaceutical products.
- Maintain compliance with merchandising and stock management standards.
Financial Management
- Ensure the financial sustainability and profitability of the dispensary.
- Manage budgets, expenses, and operational costs.
- Monitor dispensary and clinic performance against targets.
- Take corrective action where financial or operational targets are not being met.
Team Leadership and Staff Development
- Lead, supervise, and motivate pharmacy employees.
- Manage pharmacists, pharmacist assistants, interns, and learners.
- Conduct staff development, coaching, and performance management.
- Build team capability to meet current and future business needs.
Workforce Planning and Administration
- Schedule staff according to labour policies and operational requirements.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times.
- Manage employee attendance records and HR-related documentation.
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and company policies.
Customer Service and Loyalty Management
- Drive customer service excellence within the pharmacy.
- Implement initiatives that improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Achieve customer participation and loyalty programme targets.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and effectively.
Clinic and Healthcare Integration
- Collaborate closely with the clinic and healthcare aisle teams.
- Ensure customers receive comprehensive healthcare solutions.
- Support integrated healthcare service delivery within the store.
Business and Strategic Leadership
- Support the company’s vision and values.
- Promote alignment between store, pharmacy, and clinic operations.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on customer satisfaction and business growth.

Minimum Requirements
Education
- Registered Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience after completing Community Service.
- Minimum 1 year of people management experience.
- Registered as a Responsible Pharmacist with SAPC.
Desirable
- Retail pharmacy experience.
- Experience with Unisolve pharmacy management system.
