Job Overview
QPro Feeds, a division of the VKB Group, is looking for a Pellet Press Operator to join its manufacturing facility in Bethlehem. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the pellet mill, ensuring consistent production of high-quality animal feed while maintaining equipment, following safety procedures, and supporting daily manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Pellet Mill Operations
- Operate and monitor the pellet press and related production equipment.
- Review production processes continuously to ensure product quality and operational efficiency.
- Identify and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Follow standard operating procedures during start-up, shutdown, and normal production.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Regulate pellet press settings, including:
- Temperature
- Speed
- Steam pressure
- Monitor conditioner temperatures and settings according to product specifications.
- Control fat coater spraying and product mixing processes.
- Perform daily cleaning of the pellet press and surrounding equipment.
- Maintain sieves in good condition for effective sifting.
- Grease the pellet mill at the beginning of every shift.
- Clean pellet press chokes, coolers, elevators, conditioners, and feeders as scheduled.
- Assist maintenance artisans with die and roller changes.
- Assist with equipment breakdowns and repairs.
- Ensure planned maintenance is completed according to daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
Quality Control
- Ensure pellet length meets production specifications.
- Collect in-line product samples according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor production quality and make process adjustments where necessary.
- Read production data and trends to optimise performance.
Safety and Housekeeping
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
- Ensure excellent housekeeping throughout the facility.
- Remain present while the pellet press is in operation.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in an animal feed manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to interpret production data and make operational adjustments.
- Proven commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
