    Job Purpose

    The Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of cash processing equipment, including banknote and coin counting and sorting machines. The role aims to maximize equipment uptime, improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure compliance with business continuity and quality management standards.

    The successful candidate will perform preventative and corrective maintenance, diagnose equipment faults, monitor machine performance, manage spare parts inventory, and contribute to operational excellence within a highly controlled cash-processing environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Equipment Maintenance and Repairs

    Preventative Maintenance

    • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
    • Conduct regular inspections of machinery to identify potential faults before failures occur.
    • Ensure equipment remains operational and efficient.

    Corrective Maintenance

    • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and operational failures.
    • Diagnose faults and determine appropriate repair solutions.
    • Replace defective components and restore equipment functionality.
    • Perform repairs according to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards.

    Machine Performance Monitoring

    • Monitor equipment performance and reliability.
    • Conduct machine sensor analysis and diagnostics.
    • Identify recurring technical issues and implement corrective actions.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing machine uptime.

    2. Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

    • Investigate mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
    • Perform root-cause analysis of equipment failures.
    • Resolve operational incidents efficiently.
    • Conduct daily equipment inspections and fault detection activities.
    • Minimize disruptions to operational processes.

    3. Spare Parts and Inventory Management

    • Maintain adequate stock levels of critical spare parts.
    • Monitor inventory usage and replacement requirements.
    • Ensure rapid availability of replacement components.
    • Minimize downtime through effective inventory planning.

    4. Reporting and Documentation

    Maintenance Reporting

    • Compile and submit:
      • Daily maintenance reports
      • Monthly maintenance reports
      • Equipment performance reports
      • Downtime and uptime statistics

    Audit and Compliance Reporting

    • Conduct and document monthly inventory audits.
    • Maintain maintenance records and service documentation.
    • Support SARB (South African Reserve Bank) daily and monthly test pack audits.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of technical documentation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    Essential

    • Relevant Trade Qualification such as:
      • Millwright
      • Electrician
      • Fitter and Turner
    • Practical on-site maintenance experience.

    Advantageous

    • National Diploma or NQF Level 5 qualification in:
      • Mechanical Engineering
      • Electrical Engineering
      • Mechatronics
      • Related Technical Discipline
    • OEM equipment certifications and technical training.
    • Additional qualifications in automated or electro-mechanical systems.

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 2 years’ hands-on experience as a technician.
