    Job Description

    The Registrar provides judicial and administrative support to the Supreme Court of Appeal by managing court processes, coordinating case flow management, overseeing court records, issuing court documents, supporting judges, and ensuring compliance with court rules and legislation.

    The role is responsible for the efficient administration of court proceedings, appeals, reviews, taxation of bills of costs, court statistics, records management, public enquiries, and supervision of administrative staff. The Registrar plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of the court.

    Key Responsibilities

    Case Flow Management

    • Coordinate court case flow management.
    • Monitor the progress of court cases.
    • Ensure efficient movement of cases through the court system.
    • Support judicial officers with case administration.
    • Ensure compliance with court procedures.

    Judicial Support

    • Provide administrative support to judges.
    • Execute requests from the judiciary relating to court matters.
    • Assist with case-related administrative functions.
    • Facilitate efficient court operations.

    Court Administration

    • Ensure compliance with court rules and legislative requirements.
    • Manage the issuing of court processes.
    • Initiate court proceedings.
    • Coordinate appeals and review applications.
    • Issue and sign court orders.
    • Issue official court correspondence to attorneys and litigants.

    Taxation of Bills of Costs

    • Handle the taxation of legal bills of costs.
    • Process taxation applications.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant legal procedures.

    Court Records Management

    • Implement efficient records management systems.
    • Maintain court files.
    • Classify and manage court records.
    • Ensure proper filing and storage of documents.
    • Prepare files for audits.
    • Arrange submission of records for translation.
    • Manage records in accordance with applicable legislation.

    Statistics & Reporting

    • Compile monthly court statistics.
    • Prepare quarterly and annual reports.
    • Analyse court performance statistics.
    • Monitor the submission of statistical reports.

    Office Administration

    • Respond to public enquiries.
    • Handle official correspondence.
    • Coordinate office administration.
    • Plan and organize administrative activities.
    • Ensure efficient office operations.

    People Management

    • Supervise administrative staff.
    • Manage human resource-related processes.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    MR3

    • LLB Degree or equivalent legal qualification.
    • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification legal experience.

    MR4

    • LLB Degree or equivalent legal qualification.
    • Minimum 8 years’ post-qualification legal experience.

    MR5

    • LLB Degree or equivalent legal qualification.
    • Minimum 14 years’ post-qualification legal experience.

    Note: Certificates of service must accompany the application to verify legal experience.

    Advantageous Requirements

    • Valid driver’s licence.
