    Job Description

    The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe working environment within the Internal Audit offices of the South African Police Service (SAPS). The role involves performing routine cleaning duties, maintaining office facilities, handling cleaning materials safely, and supporting general housekeeping activities to ensure a healthy workplace for employees and visitors.

    The successful candidate will clean offices, bathrooms, kitchens, and surrounding premises while adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.

    Key Responsibilities

    Cleaning & Housekeeping

    • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness within SAPS premises.
    • Clean offices, corridors, and work areas.
    • Dust office furniture and equipment.
    • Sweep and mop floors.
    • Clean tiled surfaces.
    • Vacuum carpets where required.
    • Maintain cleanliness of entrances and common areas.

    Bathroom Cleaning

    • Clean and sanitize bathrooms and toilets.
    • Wash basins, mirrors, and other bathroom fixtures.
    • Replenish hygiene supplies where required.
    • Ensure bathrooms remain clean and hygienic throughout the day.

    Kitchen Cleaning

    • Clean kitchen areas.
    • Wash kitchenware and utensils.
    • Maintain cleanliness of sinks and preparation areas.
    • Ensure kitchen facilities remain hygienic.

    Waste Management

    • Remove refuse bags.
    • Dispose of waste according to procedures.
    • Keep refuse collection areas clean.
    • Maintain a tidy working environment.

    Cleaning Equipment & Materials

    • Safely use cleaning detergents and chemicals.
    • Handle cleaning materials responsibly.
    • Store cleaning equipment correctly.
    • Operate basic cleaning machines and equipment.
    • Report damaged equipment when necessary.

    General Support

    • Load and unload goods when required.
    • Assist with general housekeeping duties.
    • Maintain cleanliness around the inner and outer premises.
    • Support office staff in maintaining a safe working environment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    • ABET Level 4, or
    • Grade 9 / Standard 7 certificate/report.
    • Qualification must be NQF Level 1 recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority.

    Language Requirements

    • Proficient in English and at least one other official South African language.

    Citizenship Requirements

    • South African citizen.
    • Documentary proof of citizenship required during the interview.
