    Job Purpose

    The Nutritionist is responsible for promoting, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating nutrition programmes across Primary Health Care facilities and communities within the district. The role focuses on disease-specific nutrition support, therapeutic nutrition counselling, maternal and child nutrition, nutrition education, food service management, growth monitoring, micronutrient interventions, and community-based nutrition initiatives.

    The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to improve nutritional outcomes and support disease prevention and treatment through evidence-based nutrition interventions.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Qualifications

    • Degree in Dietetics or an appropriate qualification that allows registration as a Nutritionist.
    • Qualification must allow registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

    Professional Registration

    • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Nutritionist for the 2026/2027 period.

    Experience Requirements

    Grade 1

    • South African qualified applicants:
      • No experience required after HPCSA registration.
    • Foreign qualified applicants:
      • Minimum 1 year relevant experience after registration as a Nutritionist where community service is not required.

    Grade 2

    • South African qualified applicants:
      • Minimum 10 years relevant experience after HPCSA registration.
    • Foreign qualified applicants:
      • Minimum 11 years relevant experience after registration.

    Grade 3

    • South African qualified applicants:
      • Minimum 20 years relevant experience after HPCSA registration.
    • Foreign qualified applicants:
      • Minimum 21 years relevant experience after registration.

    Additional Requirements

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Primary Health Care Nutrition Support

    • Support Primary Health Care facilities and clinics.
    • Rotate between clinics within the district.
    • Provide nutrition services at facility level.
    • Strengthen nutrition programme implementation.
    • Support integrated healthcare delivery.

    2. Therapeutic Nutrition Services

    Provide:

    • Nutrition assessment.
    • Nutrition treatment plans.
    • Therapeutic nutrition interventions.
    • Individualized dietary counselling.
    • Disease-specific nutrition support.
    • Follow-up consultations and monitoring.

    3. Integrated Nutrition Programme (INP) Coordination
