DMS Powders, a global leader in the production and distribution of dense media ferrosilicon powders, is seeking a highly experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee engineering, maintenance, and plant operations at their Meyerton facility. This senior position plays a strategic role in shaping the organisation’s business direction, ensuring plant reliability, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate must be a technically strong leader with a deep understanding of manufacturing and metallurgical environments.
Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing all engineering and maintenance functions within the plant, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, optimising production uptime, maintaining all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil assets, and leading a team of supervisors, technicians, and artisans. This role also involves strategic planning, capital project support, preventative maintenance development, budgeting, and driving efficiency improvements across operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership

Contribute to business strategy development and the 5-year operational plan.

Manage production plant operations in alignment with Health & Safety legislation (GMR 2 compliance).

Develop engineering policies, procedures, and maintenance strategies consistent with plant requirements.

Ensure adherence to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18000, and Fatal Risk Protocol standards.
Engineering & Maintenance Management
-
Direct and coordinate all mechanical, electrical, civil, and instrumentation activities.

Maintain plant equipment, piping, and electrical systems using internal teams or contractors.

Ensure optimal care of plant and support equipment through technical supervision.
-
Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs and plant philosophies.
-
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA), defect elimination, and cost-effective production improvements.
Operations & Production Support
-
Monitor production and operations reports and resolve maintenance issues to minimise downtime.

Provide process flows, BOMs, routing, tooling requirements, and maintenance standards for new jobs.

Ensure alignment with the ingot supply pipeline, daily rolling plan, and work-in-process targets.

Support production to achieve maximum output with minimal labour costs.
Capital Projects & Procurement

Quote and assist in capital acquisition and lean continuous improvement projects.

Manage purchase requisitions, return order requisitions, and preventative maintenance on JDE.

Manage external technical and non-technical support services.
People Management
-
Lead supervisors, artisans, and technicians to ensure effective operations.

Ensure staff are trained, skilled, and optimally utilised.

Maintain a work environment that boosts morale, productivity, and safety.

Manage department standby duties across production, quality, maintenance, and HR.
Minimum Requirements
Education
-
BSc Mechanical Engineering degree.

GCC (Government Certificate of Competency) – essential.
Experience
-
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a management or supervisory engineering role.

Practical experience in manufacturing processes and metallurgical furnaces.

Proven leadership and strong technical background in plant or industrial maintenance.

Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, maintenance systems, and operational procedures.

Experience with project management and leading engineering teams.
