Job Overview:
The Junior Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of agricultural machinery and motorbikes, including tractors, sprayers, harvesters, and other specialized equipment. The role involves hands-on technical work, workshop maintenance, and customer interaction to ensure all machinery operates efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs:
Perform repairs on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Conduct scheduled services (oil changes, inspections, etc.)
Ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
Use diagnostic tools and software to identify faults
Resolve mechanical/electrical issues efficiently
Test equipment post-repair for functionality
Workshop Operations:
Keep a clean and safe work environment
Maintain and organise tools and workshop equipment
Assist with inventory and parts ordering
Customer Service:
Communicate effectively with clients about machinery issues
Provide updates, advice, and technical recommendations
Ensure customer satisfaction through professional service
Record-Keeping:
Track labour, parts used, and complete service reports
Provide feedback on recurring technical issues
Document repairs and maintenance accurately
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications:
Red Seal qualification in:
Agricultural Mechanics
Diesel Mechanics
OR a relevant mechanical trade
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (agricultural, diesel, or heavy equipment industry)
Industry Knowledge:
Hands-on experience with a range of agricultural equipment and/or motorbikes
Understanding of technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic software
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license (travel to customer sites required)
Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in varying conditions
Able to lift heavy parts and stand for extended periods
Skills & Competencies:
Strong mechanical, electrical & hydraulic troubleshooting skills
Attention to detail & excellent problem-solving abilities
Good communication & interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
