Job Description
As a Chemical Plant Controller, you will monitor and operate plant systems, ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining strict safety, quality, and operational standards. You’ll play a critical role in keeping the plant running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations
- Operate and control plant equipment and processes
- Monitor system performance and production outputs
- Participate in shift handovers and daily operations
Monitoring & Reporting
- Provide feedback to supervisors on plant performance
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Identify and report issues affecting production
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct risk assessments and follow safety procedures
- Maintain housekeeping and waste disposal standards
- Participate in emergency response situations
Training & Development
- Coach and mentor junior staff and learners
- Contribute to training materials and modules
- Identify personal training needs and development plans
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with different departments
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety discussions
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Mathematics & Science
- Occupational Trade Certificate (NQF Level 4)
- Minimum 2 years experience as a plant operator in a refinery
Required Experience (Any of These Units)
You must have worked in at least one of the following:
- Crude & Vacuum Units (CDU/VDU)
- Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC)
- Hydrotreater (Diesel, Naphtha, AR)
- Hydrocracker / Hydrogen Unit
- Alkylation or Platformer
- Utilities / Tank Farm / Product Dispatch
- Wastewater or Sulfur Recovery
