Purpose of the Role
The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of agricultural machinery and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
The role focuses on:
- Diagnosing mechanical problems
- Performing preventative maintenance
- Ensuring all equipment meets safety and operational standards
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintenance & Repairs
- Service and repair agricultural equipment and vehicles
- Perform overhauls of mechanical components
- Conduct preventative maintenance
2. Fault Diagnosis
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical faults
- Work with:
- Mechanical systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Basic electrical systems
3. Administration & Documentation
- Compile quotations based on customer requirements
- Complete job cards and worksheets according to company policies
- Process guarantee and claims documentation accurately
4. Customer & Supplier Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with:
- Customers
- Suppliers
- Provide technical support and advice
5. Training & Support
- Train and mentor junior staff
- Ensure compliance with VKB procedures
6. Sales & Coordination
- Promote relevant products and services
- Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders
7. Health & Safety
- Follow all workplace safety regulations
- Ensure safe operation of tools and equipment
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Completed N2 – Tractor Mechanic
Experience
- 2–5 years’ experience as a mechanic
- Experience with agricultural equipment (advantage)
Technical Knowledge
- Mechanical systems
- Hydraulics
- Basic electrical systems
