Purpose of the Role
The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating maintenance operations within the feed mill. The role ensures that equipment, facilities, and maintenance personnel operate efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, productivity, and compliance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily maintenance activities.
- Allocate maintenance tasks to team members.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed efficiently and to required quality standards.
- Monitor maintenance schedules and priorities.
Staff Supervision
- Supervise maintenance personnel on a daily basis.
- Monitor the quality of maintenance work performed.
- Manage staff performance and productivity.
- Maintain staff discipline and workplace morale.
- Develop and manage staff rosters and work schedules.
Planning and Resource Management
- Assist with maintenance planning and resource allocation.
- Coordinate staffing requirements and workload distribution.
- Support ordering of maintenance materials, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with loss control measures and asset protection.
Training and Development
- Ensure maintenance staff receive adequate training.
- Keep employees informed of changes in legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Promote continuous skills development and competency improvement.
Project Coordination
- Plan and coordinate maintenance-related projects.
- Monitor project progress and completion.
- Ensure projects are completed according to operational requirements and timelines.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure maintenance personnel comply with company policies and procedures.
- Promote safe working practices.
- Support adherence to maintenance standards and operational regulations.
Administration and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Complete reports and administrative duties related to maintenance operations.
- Ensure maintenance information is updated and readily available for management review.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate.
- Qualified Artisan with Maintenance Management qualification.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment.
- Experience managing or supervising a maintenance department.
