    Job Description

    The Assistant Director: Legal Support role provides legal advisory, research, drafting, and administrative support within a public service legal environment.

    The position supports the Public Service Commission and related offices by assisting with legal opinions, contracts, compliance monitoring, and litigation coordination. The role requires strong legal knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced government environment.

    Responsibilities

    Legal Research & Advisory Support

    • Conduct legal research and analysis
    • Assist in drafting legal opinions for the PSC and OPSC
    • Provide legal advisory support to internal stakeholders

    Contract and Agreement Management

    • Draft Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)
    • Draft contracts and legal agreements
    • Provide secretariat support to MoU committees

    Compliance & Governance Support

    • Assist in ensuring compliance with:
      • PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act)
      • POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act)
    • Support legal governance processes within the department

    Litigation Support

    • Assist in managing litigation processes
    • Provide documentation and legal support in court-related matters
    • Coordinate case preparation and legal records

    Legal Administration

    • Provide general legal administrative support
    • Maintain legal documentation and records
    • Assist with coordination of legal workflows

    Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    • Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) (NQF Level 7)

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 years experience in:
      • Legal environment, OR
      • Equivalent legal-related field (including private sector experience)

    Additional Requirements

    • Valid Driver’s License (except for disabled applicants)
    • Advanced computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
