Job Description
The Assistant Director: Communications Outreach is responsible for supporting internal and external communication functions within the Public Service Commission.
The role focuses on media relations, public engagement, internal communication, branding, and community outreach. It ensures effective communication of government programmes, promotes transparency, and supports public awareness of service delivery and constitutional values.
Responsibilities
1. Internal Communications
- Draft and distribute internal communication to staff
- Write articles for internal newsletters and publications
- Manage internal email communication systems
- Coordinate intranet updates with IT departments
- Capture photographs during internal events
- Assist with staff information sessions and internal events
2. External Communications & Media Relations
- Monitor daily media coverage (newspapers and online sources)
- Analyse news articles and report critical issues to management
- Compile “In the News” reports for commissioners and staff
- Assist in drafting media statements and press releases
- Support media briefings and press conferences
3. Social Media & Digital Platforms
- Manage and update social media platforms:
- Twitter/X
- YouTube
- WhatsApp groups
- Assist with live streaming of PSC events
- Support online engagement and digital communication strategies
4. Community Outreach & Engagement
- Assist with public outreach programmes
- Engage with communities affected by service delivery issues
- Support resolution of service delivery complaints
- Facilitate CVP awareness and anti-corruption campaigns
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities
5. Branding & Marketing Support
- Design and produce communication materials such as:
- Posters
- Banners
- Pamphlets
- Promotional materials
- Assist with branding at events and exhibitions
- Manage communication equipment (e.g., cameras, branding tools)
6. Administrative Duties
- Compile monthly communication reports
- Assist with quarterly reporting and evidence collection
- Maintain records of communication activities
- Provide general administrative support
Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Communications
Experience Requirements
- 2–3 years’ experience in the communications field
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s licence (except for disabled applicants)
- Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to work under pressure
