    Job Description

    The Radio Controller is responsible for maintaining constant communication with road crews and vehicles, coordinating daily operations, monitoring vehicle movements, maintaining operational records, and ensuring that emergency procedures and communication protocols are followed.

    The role is critical to the safe and efficient management of field operations, requiring excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communication and Operational Control

    • Maintain radio communication with vehicles and road crews.
    • Maintain telephone communication with operational teams.
    • Monitor vehicle locations and activities at all times.
    • Ensure crews use the correct radio communication codes.
    • Confirm that emergency communication procedures are understood and followed.
    • Coordinate operational information between crews and management.

    Scheduling and Route Coordination

    • Prepare and manage operational schedules.
    • Brief new road crews on route and schedule requirements.
    • Assist with route planning and re-routing when necessary.
    • Maintain current maps of operational areas.
    • Support efficient and safe road operations.

    Monitoring and Record Keeping

    • Maintain a detailed daily operations log.
    • Record:
      • Vehicle movements
      • Third-party movements
      • Blind radio spots
      • No-service receipts
      • Standby situations
      • Missed schedules
      • Unscheduled work
      • Operational reminders
    • Ensure records are accurate and up to date.

    Client Liaison

    • Contact clients regarding no-service situations.
    • Confirm client authorisation where services cannot be performed.
    • Maintain professional communication with clients.
    • Ensure client information is communicated to operational teams.

    Emergency Response Support

    • Keep emergency contact numbers readily available.
    • Assist with emergency communication and coordination.
    • Support implementation of emergency procedures.
    • Ensure operational staff follow established protocols.

    Health and Safety Responsibilities

    • Participate in workplace health and safety programmes.
    • Attend safety meetings and training sessions.
    • Report incidents and hazards promptly.
    • Follow company safety policies and procedures.
    • Wear required protective equipment while on duty.
    • Support implementation of branch, regional, and national safety plans.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.

    Licences and Certifications

    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Professional Driving Permit (PDP) (where required by the branch).
    • PSIRA Grade C certification.
    • CIT (Cash-in-Transit) certification.
    • Firearm competency certificate (Handgun).

    Experience Requirements

    Applicants should have one of the following:

    • Police experience, or
    • Military experience, or
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in the Cash-in-Transit (CIT) industry.

    Additional Advantage
