Job Description
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for ensuring continuous service delivery within the workshop, at customer sites, and during standby periods. The role involves diagnosing faults, conducting repairs and servicing, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring vehicles are repaired according to manufacturer specifications.
The successful candidate will work primarily on heavy commercial vehicles and will be expected to deliver high-quality workmanship while meeting productivity and efficiency targets.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Diagnostics and Fault Finding
- Accurately diagnose faults reported on vehicles.
- Conduct troubleshooting and identify root causes of mechanical problems.
- Report additional faults identified during inspections and repairs.
Vehicle Servicing and Repairs
- Perform servicing and maintenance according to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct repairs efficiently and accurately.
- Complete service sheets and required documentation.
- Ensure vehicles are returned to operational condition.
Workshop Operations
- Maintain high standards of workshop quality.
- Follow workshop safety and security procedures at all times.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and manufacturer standards.
- Support continuous service delivery within the workshop environment.
Quality Control
- Ensure repairs meet required quality standards.
- Work accurately to achieve productivity and efficiency targets.
- Verify completed repairs before vehicle release.
Vehicle Testing
- Conduct road tests on repaired vehicles when required.
- Confirm repairs have resolved reported faults.
- Ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy before handover.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric Certificate).
- N3 qualification.
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate.
Experience Requirements
Essential Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified Diesel Mechanic in the heavy commercial vehicle industry.
Manufacturer Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working on:
- MAN heavy commercial vehicles
- Volkswagen (VW) heavy commercial vehicles
Technical Systems Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with:
- MAN CATS 3 diagnostic systems
