Job Description
The Emergency Care Officer will provide emergency medical care and transportation to sick and injured patients in accordance with HPCSA protocols. The role also involves patient administration, vehicle and equipment maintenance, inter-facility patient transfers and general emergency medical service duties.
Responsibilities
- Render emergency medical care and transportation of sick and injured patients according to HPCSA protocols.
- Perform basic administrative duties related to emergency care services.
- Maintain accurate patient records, vehicle checklists, log sheets and other required documentation.
- Maintain and clean emergency medical equipment.
- Maintain and clean emergency vehicles and the base station.
- Undertake inter-facility transfers of patients.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Successful completion of an appropriate Intermediate Life Support (ILS) course that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA).
- Registration with the HPCSA as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA).
- Current HPCSA registration for 2026/2027.
- No experience required after registration with HPCSA as an AEA.
- Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with PDP (P/G).
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) protocols.
- Knowledge of Intermediate Life Support (ILS) protocols.
